Release notes

Everything we've shipped, newest first. We write these for you rather than for ourselves, so they describe what changed for someone using the site — not what changed in the code.

SK Play Labs is built by two people in evenings and at weekends, so releases land when they're ready rather than on a schedule. There are 78 tools and 14 games live today, and the list below is how they got here.

Nothing here is padded. If a release was small, it says so — a page of invented milestones would tell you less than an honest short entry.

  1. Number to Words takes the number however you write it

    v1.5.1

    If you typed an amount the way it appears on a bank statement or a cheque, the converter used to refuse it. Now it reads it.

    Fixed

    • Number to Words now accepts spaces between the digits — 1 00 000 and 10 50 00 000 both work. That is how amounts in lakh are usually written by hand, and until now the tool turned them away and asked for a plain number instead.
    • It also takes a ₹ sign, a trailing /-, an amount part-written as 2 lakh 35000, and shorthand like 5e10.
    • The note on spelling said the form without the 'and' — 'one hundred one' — was British. It is the American one; British usage keeps the 'and'. Corrected, and it now agrees with the answer further down the same page.

    Improved

    • Number to Words now answers the question it gets asked most: how to write an amount in rupees on a cheque or an invoice. That includes the part it cannot do for you — anything after the decimal point is read digit by digit, so ₹1,687.50 comes out as 'point five zero' and you will need to write the paise yourself.
    • The footer links every tool category now, not only the media ones. Finance, Developer, Utilities, Health and Productivity were in the menu but missing from the bottom of the page.
    • Sharing a link now shows that page's own title and description. Every page apart from the individual tool and game pages was previously sharing the homepage's.

  2. Seven everyday tools — dates, Roman numerals, numbers in words and more

    The Utilities section nearly doubles, and Finance and Developer each gain the tool they were most obviously missing.

    New

    • Date Calculator — add or subtract days, weeks, months and years from a date, or count in business days that skip weekends.
    • Roman Numeral Converter — both directions, with proper subtractive notation and validation that rejects malformed numerals instead of guessing.
    • Number to Words — spell a number out in either the Indian system (lakh, crore) or the international one (million, billion).
    • Random Picker — dice, coin flips, drawing names from a list, and shuffling.
    • Discount Calculator — sale price, the percentage you got, or the original price, plus what two stacked discounts really come to.
    • Tip & Bill Splitter — split a bill with tip, optional tax, and rounding for each person's share.
    • Number Base Converter — binary, octal, decimal, hex and anything from base 2 to 36, exact even for 64-bit values.

    Improved

    • Adding these seven cost nothing in page weight — every tool page still loads the same amount as before, because each page only downloads the tool you opened.

  3. No ads, and no cookies at all

    v1.4.1

    We applied to Google AdSense and were turned down for reasons unrelated to anything on this site. So there are no ads — and with no ad network, there is nothing setting cookies either.

    Improved

    • The site now loads zero third-party scripts and sets zero cookies. Not 'minimal tracking' — none.
    • The privacy policy, cookie policy, terms and disclaimer were rewritten the same day to match, rather than describing advertising that isn't there.
    • The About page says plainly what happened: we applied, we were declined for an account-level reason that had nothing to do with the site, and we currently run this unfunded.

  4. Our first 3D game, five new tools, and faster pages everywhere

    The site gets its first game in real 3D, the Health and Productivity sections get the tools they were missing, and every tool and game page now loads noticeably less code.

    New

    • Skyline — our first 3D game. Stack sliding slabs into a tower; the overhang is sliced away, so it narrows with every imperfect drop. Runs in the browser with nothing to install.
    • A 3D section in Games, with more to come.
    • Calorie Calculator — resting metabolic rate and daily energy at every activity level, from the Mifflin–St Jeor equation.
    • Body Fat Calculator — the US Navy circumference estimate, with fat and lean mass.
    • Macro Calculator — turns a calorie figure and a split into grams of protein, carbohydrate and fat.
    • Water Intake Calculator — a daily fluid range rather than a falsely precise target.
    • Focus Timer — timed work stretches with breaks, and a longer break every few rounds.
    • Stopwatch & Timer — a stopwatch with lap splits, and a countdown with presets.

    Improved

    • Every tool and game page now downloads about a quarter less code, because each page loads only the tool you opened instead of all of them.
    • Both timers count down to a fixed end time, so leaving the tab in the background no longer makes them finish late.
    • The Health and Productivity section pages have been rewritten now that they have more than one or two tools in them.

  5. Honest pages, working legal text, and PDF passwords

    v1.3.0

    Unfinished sections were removed rather than left half-built, the legal documents were rewritten to match what the site actually does, and PDF password tools arrived.

    New

    • Protect PDF and Unlock PDF — add or remove a PDF password, in your browser.

    Improved

    • Section pages that were thin now carry a proper introduction explaining what the section is for.
    • The privacy, terms, disclaimer and cookie pages were rewritten to describe what the site really does, rather than boilerplate.
    • Security response headers added across the site.

    Fixed

    • Removed the placeholder Apps and Blog sections. They had no real content, and a section that promises something it doesn't have is worse than no section.

  6. Media tools, wave two

    v1.2.0

    More image and PDF work you can do without uploading anything, including PDF-to-image conversion and a favicon generator.

    New

    • PDF to Images — turn any page of a PDF into a PNG or JPEG.
    • Favicon Generator — every icon size a website needs, from one image.
    • Colour Palette Extractor, Image to Base64, Image Cropper and Watermark Image.
    • QR Code Generator, now that it produces codes that actually scan — verified by decoding them back.

  7. Games

    v1.1.0

    A whole second half of the site: thirteen browser games across puzzle, arcade, skill, board and idle, all playable without an account.

    New

    • Daily Word and Word Groups — a new puzzle every day, the same one for everyone, with no server involved.
    • 2048, Sudoku, Memory Match, Minesweeper, Snake, BlastRow, Reaction Time, Typing Speed Test, Tic-Tac-Toe, 4Fever and an Idle Clicker.
    • Personal bests and daily streaks, saved on your device.

  8. The first public version

    v1.0.0

    Finance, developer and everyday tools, all running in your browser with no signup and nothing uploaded.

    New

    • Finance calculators — EMI, SIP, compound interest, FD, RD, GST, income tax and more.
    • Developer utilities — JSON formatting, Base64, hashing, JWT decoding, regex testing, diffs and converters.
    • Everyday tools — unit conversion, percentages, dates, word counting and case conversion.
    • Light and dark themes that follow your system, with a manual toggle.
    • Installable as an app on phones and desktops.
