About this tool
Sometimes you just need to capture thirty seconds of speech — a note to yourself, a pronunciation, a quick take for a video — without installing anything or signing into a service that will keep a copy. This records straight from your microphone into the page. A level meter shows you're actually being picked up (a surprising number of failed recordings are a muted or wrong input), you can pause and resume, and when you finish you can play it back and download it. The microphone stream is released as soon as you stop, so your browser's recording indicator goes out rather than lingering.

How to use

Frequently asked questions
Where is the recording stored?
Only in this page's memory, until you download it. There's no autosave and no server copy — which also means closing or reloading the tab loses it for good. Download anything you want to keep before navigating away.
Why is the file a .webm or .m4a rather than .mp3?
Browsers record into whichever container they support: Chrome and Firefox use WebM with the Opus codec, Safari uses MP4/AAC. None of them record MP3. Both play fine everywhere modern; use the WAV option if you need something an older editor will open.
The level meter isn't moving.
Usually the wrong input device or a hardware mute. Check your system sound settings for which microphone is selected, look for a physical mute switch on a headset, and make sure no other app has taken exclusive control of the mic.
Does the site keep listening after I finish?
No. We stop every track on the microphone stream when you press Finish or leave the page, which is what makes your browser's recording indicator switch off. If that indicator is still lit, the microphone is being used by something else.
Can I record a call or someone else speaking?
This records whatever your microphone picks up, so technically yes — but recording other people is subject to the law where you are, and in many places needs the consent of everyone involved. That part is on you, not the tool.
