The result is only right if you apply the correct slab for the item — the main GST rates are now 5% and 18%, with 40% on select luxury and demerit goods. Per-invoice rounding can shift totals by a rupee or two. This isn't tax advice; check the applicable rate and HSN code. Read our full disclaimer.
About this tool
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's indirect tax on goods and services, commonly 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%. This tool adds GST on top of a base amount, or backs it out of a tax-inclusive price, and shows the CGST/SGST split used for intra-state supply (IGST for inter-state).
Example
Add 18% GST to ₹1,000 → ₹180 GST (₹90 CGST + ₹90 SGST), gross ₹1,180. Remove 18% from ₹1,180 → base ₹1,000.
How to use
- 1Choose Add GST (from a net amount) or Remove GST (from an inclusive amount).

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
For a sale within a state, GST is split equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). For an inter-state sale, a single IGST equal to the full GST applies.
How do I remove GST from a total price?
Use Remove GST: the base is amount × 100 / (100 + rate), and the GST is the difference. For example, ₹1,180 at 18% gives a base of ₹1,000.
