FD Calculator
Maturity value of a fixed deposit.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or sent to a server.
A pre-tax estimate. FD interest is taxable — banks deduct TDS once it crosses ₹50,000 in a year (₹1 lakh for senior citizens) — and breaking the deposit early usually costs a penalty, so confirm the exact maturity with your bank. Read our full disclaimer.
About this tool
A fixed deposit (FD) locks a lump sum with a bank for a fixed term at a fixed rate. In a cumulative FD the interest is reinvested and compounds — Indian banks do this quarterly by default. This calculator shows what your deposit grows to at maturity and how much of that is interest, using A = P(1 + r/n)^(n·t).
Example
₹1,00,000 at 6.6% for 3 years compounded quarterly matures to about ₹1,21,699 — roughly ₹21,699 of it interest.
How to use
- 1Enter the amount you're depositing.
- 2Set the annual interest rate the bank offers.
- 3Set the tenure in years.
- 4Pick the compounding frequency (quarterly is the usual default) to see the maturity value.
Features
- Maturity value and interest earned update as you type.
- Pick the compounding frequency — quarterly, monthly, half-yearly, or annual.
- Deposit and interest shown as separate amounts.
Frequently asked questions
How is FD maturity calculated?
With the compound-interest formula A = P(1 + r/n)^(n·t): P is the deposit, r the annual rate, n the times interest compounds per year (4 for quarterly), and t the years.
What's a cumulative vs non-cumulative FD?
A cumulative FD reinvests the interest and pays it all at maturity — that's what this calculator models. A non-cumulative FD pays the interest out periodically (monthly or quarterly), so it doesn't compound and the maturity is just your principal back.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes. FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab, and the bank deducts TDS once the interest crosses ₹50,000 in a year (₹1 lakh for senior citizens). This shows the pre-tax maturity, so your in-hand return is a little lower.
What happens if I break the FD early?
Premature withdrawal usually earns a lower rate plus a small penalty, so you'd get less than the maturity shown here. Check your bank's premature-withdrawal terms before relying on the full figure.
Will my bank's figure match exactly?
It's a close estimate. Banks may round differently or apply TDS on interest, so confirm the exact maturity with your bank.
