About this tool
This is an interval timer for working in fixed stretches: a period of focus, a short break, and a longer break after every few rounds — the familiar 25-and-5 pattern, with all four lengths adjustable if that rhythm doesn't suit you. Two decisions are worth knowing about. First, it counts down to a fixed end time rather than subtracting a second at a time, because browsers throttle timers in background tabs and a naive countdown finishes minutes late. Second, nothing starts on its own: each phase ends, chimes once, and waits for you. It won't roll you into the next round and it won't nag you to come back — a timer's job is to tell you the time is up, not to manage your attention.
Example
On the default settings you get four 25-minute focus rounds separated by 5-minute breaks, then a 15-minute long break before the cycle begins again.
How to use
- 1Press Start. The timer counts down your focus stretch.
- 2When it ends you'll hear a single chime and the next phase is queued, but not started.
- 3Press Start again when you're ready, or Skip to move on early.
- 4Use 'Change lengths' to set your own focus, break and cycle lengths — they're remembered on this device.

Frequently asked questions
Does it keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer works from the wall-clock instant your phase ends rather than from a running count, so backgrounding the tab affects how smoothly the display updates and nothing else. It cannot keep running once you close the page, though — there's no server holding your session.
Why doesn't the next phase start automatically?
Because a break that starts without you is a break you spend reading the timer. Each phase ends, says so once, and waits. If you'd rather move straight on, Skip does it in one press.
Can I change the 25 and 5 minute lengths?
Yes — all four values are adjustable: focus length, short break, long break, and how many focus rounds go by before the long one. Your settings are saved in this browser, so they're there next time on this device.
Why is there no sound file?
The chime is generated by the browser rather than downloaded. That keeps the page a little lighter, and it means we're not shipping an audio file whose licence we'd have to track. You can turn it off with the checkbox.
Is any of this saved or sent anywhere?
Only your phase lengths and the sound setting, stored in this browser. The session itself — how many rounds you've done — lives in the page and is gone when you close it. Nothing is sent to a server.
